About The Position

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Lab Technician to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT. The Engineering Lab Technician will support product development and sustaining engineering efforts by preparing and performing testing to assure product compliance to industry and internally developed standards. Additionally, the Engineering Lab Technician will support product testing related to Legrand’s existing product surveillance program (QSP).

Requirements

  • Education: Two year technology degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 2 - 4 years related testing experience in a research and development environment preferred. No direct testing experience required.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Electrical wiring skills.
  • Experience/knowledge of electrical loads and properties.
  • Able to work efficiently and safely when testing devices on test systems.
  • Able to understand, interpret, and follow test standards.
  • Understanding of temperature tests and thermocouple application.
  • Ability to use lab equipment including, but not limited to: Voltmeters and ammeters Data acquisition Scale, caliper, micrometer, calculator Soldering equipment Power hand tools, table saws, band saws, etc.
  • Must be able to maneuver and lift a 50-pound fixtures.
  • Basic computer skills, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
  • Highly collaborative and able to work in a team based environment.
  • Able to deal professionally with internal customers, co-workers and regulatory personnel.
  • Have demonstrated problem solving capability.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the general direction of the Compliance Manager and Compliance Engineer.
  • Interact with product engineers where required to support product development.
  • Perform/facilitate testing to support continuous engineering efforts.
  • Interface with UL and other compliance agencies, and perform testing to assure product compliance to required standards.
  • Complete, publish, and file comprehensive test reports on all lab activities.
  • Maintain logs & schedules.
  • Maintain, repair all lab equipment, and equipment certification.
  • Assist with design, construct testers, fixtures, and procedures as required.
  • Assist in design concepts, prototyping, and product improvement efforts based on test results.
  • Manage, prioritize and schedule physical testing labs to ensure proper operation, safety and cleanliness.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.
