JOB SUMMARY Magellan Aerospace, Middletown has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Lab Technician to conduct certification and development testing for new and existing products and documents results. Also, performs hands-on testing, metallographic sample preparation and review, examination of test results and incorporation into test reports and certification reports.

Requirements

  • 2-year Associate/Technology degree, preferably in materials testing and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Performs destructive mechanical testing at ambient, cryo, and elevated temperature, including rotating beam fatigue, tensile, flexure, compression, tension and shear tests.
  • Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications and drawings.
  • Performs periodic chemical and solids testing for process control in clean line, penetrant, welding, brazing, and heat treat areas.
