About The Position

The Engineering Lab Tech Intern supports the engineering team through hands-on testing, data collection, and laboratory maintenance activities. This role involves conducting validation, regulatory, and software testing on commercial cooking equipment and components, as well as documenting results and communicating findings clearly. The intern assists with assembling and disassembling equipment, gathering production and process data, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, the intern helps maintain an organized lab environment, becomes proficient in internal systems, and collaborates with team members to support tooling, testing, and operational needs. The role may include cross-functional training, limited travel, and occasional interaction with customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Success in this position requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and team-focused approach, along with adherence to company policies, safety standards, and core values.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Basic computer skills that include knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products.
  • Knowledge of: Working knowledge of operating systems and general computer software
  • Computer hardware, peripherals, and common internet applications
  • Basic understanding of 3D modeling software
  • Skills in: Organizational and time management skills to manage workload effectively
  • Verbal and written communication, including active listening
  • Ability to: Think creatively and apply problem-solving skills

  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20lbs of force occasionally (<30% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (>30% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves frequent sitting, walking, and/or standing.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuit of higher education in a scientific or technical field is a plus.
  • Experience with engineering testing or working in a commercial kitchen is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Takes initiative to maintain a clean and organized space in the engineering lab and ensures various data acquisition tools are properly cared for and calibrated.
  • Performing bug testing on new software revisions for equipment.
  • Conducts regulatory testing for various agencies (UL, CE, etc.) and assist in setting up test equipment.
  • Conducts validation testing on parts from new vendors.
  • Creates detailed reports on testing data and communicate data clearly to colleagues.
  • Gathers cycle times and other various pieces of data for assembly line improvements.
  • Gathers images of processes for use in work instructions.
  • Engages with customers, clients, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Becomes proficient in internal software programs.
  • Complies with all company policies, procedures, rules, and standards.
  • Works with the engineering team to determine and procure tooling and storage needs.
  • Builds and disassembles commercial cooking equipment and test equipment as required.
  • Conducts testing on commercial cooking equipment and components within the engineering lab environment in accordance with test plans prepared by the engineering team.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and common inspection tools (calipers, multimeters, etc.).
  • Supports and embodies company mission, vision, and core values.
  • May cross train on multiple or all department responsibilities and tasks.
  • <20% travel for training, off-site testing, or material pick-up.
  • Supports departmental goals and overall objectives of the company.
