SAIC is seeking Engineering Interns to join our team of qualified, diverse, and highly motivated individuals. The candidate will provide engineering and technical support, including developing and implementing a digital model that analyzes impacts of regulatory, statutory, and policy changes on existing engineering policy and guidance managed by the Office of Systems Engineering & Architecture within the Undersecretary of Defense, Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). The DoD Systems Engineering (SE) and acquisition policy ecosystem is broad and complex, with numerous directives, instructions, guidebooks, and Military Department (MILDEP) documents that derive from statutory and federal-level mandates in support of national defense. To better understand, manage, and evolve this policy landscape, the Office of Systems Engineering and Architecture (SE&A) directorate seeks to develop a digital model capturing the relationships between key engineering-related policies and guidance in support of a variety of engineering disciplines (e.g., Modular and Open Systems Approaches (MOSA), Digital Engineering (DE), Software Engineering (SWE), Manufacturing (MfG), Reliability and Maintainability (R&M), and System Safety). This position will be hybrid, with onsite work at the Pentagon Reservation, which includes the Mark Center in Alexandria, VA or other SAIC local facilities located in Rosslyn and/or Arlington.

  • Analyze a core set of DoD SE policies and guidance documents and create a structured model in a digital, reusable format, illustrating traceability and relationships from law to policy to implementation guidance across the Department of Defense.
  • Offer insight into alignment, gaps, and opportunities for improved coherence and usability using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) capabilities and Artificial Intelligence (AI)/ Machine Learning (ML) technologies.
  • Work closely with the OUSD(R&E) SE&A Engineering team to understand the purpose, scope, and intent of engineering policy and guidance documentation.
  • Capture insights using MBSE and AI/ML (e.g., AI chatbots, System Modeling Language (SySML)).
  • Deliver a documented, navigable SySML model along with summary report and final presentation at the end of the summer internship.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science, preferably systems, electrical, computer, aerospace, or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of college coursework.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
  • Solid grasp of engineering principles, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies.
  • Strong technical background with modeling in System Modeling Language (SySML).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software applications.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct policy and data research, analyze findings, and create visual representations.
  • Experience in interpreting laws, policies, guidance, and regulations.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and workflow optimization.
