About The Position

Engineering Internship (Memphis Operations) This is a great opportunity for you to join our team and get a head-start on becoming an Engineering professional. Candidates for this role should have experience in maintenance, pursuing or possess a technical degree or have experience in manufacturing operations (packaging, processing, machine operations). This role provides the person (s) hired the opportunity for hands-on learning while continuing his/her education in pursuit of a technical maintenance related degree. Riviana Foods is seeking two (2) engineering interns to join them at the company's Memphis Manufacturing location to work closely with the Engineering and Operations teams in our indus­trial manufacturing operations. Internships are temporary, full-time, paid positions and will run from May through August. An internship with Riviana Foods provides you with practical, hands-on experience, expands your skills and enhances your knowledge while providing a great foundation for your career. As an intern, you should expect to work cross-functionally in Engineering and/or Manufacturing Opera­tions on the production floor. This work will involve challenges our teams are working to resolve for increased performance and functionality.

Requirements

  • Ideally a sophomore pursuing a technical degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical/Mechanical (Mechatronics) or Biological & Agricultural Engineering
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or above
  • Must be willing to live in the Memphis Metropolitan area during the internship period
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must be available to work 40-hour work weeks, typically 8 AM - 5 PM CST (one-hour unpaid lunch)
  • Willing to work additional hours if needed at a rate of 1.5 times hourly rate
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Highly accurate and detail- oriented
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD knowledge a plus

Responsibilities

  • Engineering work involving design, materials and process, product, systems, and/or test equip­ ment
  • Working closely with our hourly and salary production associates in solving real-world daily challenges
  • Contributions to routine engineering work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a variety of engineering tasks
  • Engineering/Manufacturing focused projects and tasks to enhance their learning experience, while providing meaningful contributions to the Memphis Operations Engineering and Manufacturing teams
  • Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance to maximize the performance of automated (varying levels) processing and packaging equipment
  • Ability and willingness to work across all levels at the plant, sharing ideas, asking for input and listening to current issues
  • Study downtime issues and work to identify potential solution
  • Assist with capital projects - contact vendors, develop spreadsheets, track costs, monitor im­ plementation
  • Data collection/storage, updating and modification of engineering diagrams and documenta­ tion
  • SAP data updates
