About The Position

MVEC is seeking an Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting distribution planning and design. This role involves working with data to help ensure system costs are accurate and fair, collaborating with engineers on capacity mapping to support planning and interconnection decisions, and assisting with updates to design standards to meet industry codes and regulations. Our internship program will run for approximately 12-14 weeks during the summer starting in May and will report on-site at Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative located in Jordan, MN. Our program focuses on hands on learning, professional development, industry and business model knowledge, and networking. MVEC interns will collaborate on a shared team project with 10% of your time dedicated to this task that requires a presentation to the Executive Team. 90% of your time will be dedicated to specific job functions as outlined below. Throughout the summer, interns are provided opportunities to learn from and network with senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program studying Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering or related field
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and interpret technical and financial data
  • Basic understanding of electric distribution systems and utility operations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers and technical staff while managing multiple tasks

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data to ensure MVEC’s schedule of Charges are accurate and fair
  • Work with Power Engineers to create capacity/hosting capacity maps
  • Help update the Distribution Design Manual utilizing NESC, NEC, NFPA, and more codes

  • Paid internship at $22.00 per hour.
