About The Position

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking engineering students for a Summer 2026 internship in the Construction & Design section of our Engineering Department. As an intern, you'll work directly under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer and gain valuable, hands-on experience in transportation construction. This is a great opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge in a real-world setting and explore a future career in civil engineering or construction management.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Michigan driver's license
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of construction materials, procedures, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting engineering staff on active projects.
  • Assisting with project documentation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Observing and monitoring contractor activities.
  • Collaborating with management to improve communication and project efficiency.
  • Participating in on-site inspections and construction oversight.
