About The Position

Towantic is a 785 MW, 2x1 dual-fuel combined cycle power plant featuring two GE 7HA.01 combustion turbine generators and a GE D602 steam turbine. It is a natural gas-fired facility that generates electricity efficiently. Oxford is a residential town situated in western New Haven County, Connecticut. The Engineering Intern assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by department managers.

Requirements

• Current students enrolled in an Engineering program; third year student in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
• Demonstrated capability to analyze and correct problems that occur.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project.
• Proficiency in PI Processbook a plus.
• Some experience in power plant operations and maintenance a plus.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
• Some college or better in Engineering.
• 1 year of experience in power plant operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cycle performance monitoring and improvements.
• Data entry in Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other plant projects.
• Coordinate with plant operations and maintenance personnel to verify as-built configurations and markup plant documentation (redlines).
• Revise drawings in CAD and/or coordinate with outside engineering resources to update drawings per as-built field conditions.
• Analyze and remediate long term operational and engineering issues.
• Comply with all facility environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned within scope of abilities.

Benefits

• Hourly rate of pay will be $20.00 per hour.
