About The Position

Hendricks Power Cooperative is now accepting applications for the position of Engineering Intern. We’re a growing, member-owned rural electric cooperative located just west of Indianapolis in Avon, Indiana. As a progressive utility committed to innovation, member satisfaction and employee development, we continuously invest in preventive maintenance, equipment and infrastructure upgrades, advanced technology and training. Join our team and help provide safe, reliable energy to over 40,000 members across portions of Hendricks, Morgan, Montgomery and Putnam counties. This is a temporary, full-time summer position available to work between the months of May – August 2026. The Engineering Intern will assist the engineering services team and gain insight into the engineering field while applying classroom knowledge to practical situations. This position offers a supportive learning environment where the intern will develop technical skills, contribute to ongoing projects and gain exposure to all aspects of electrical distribution design and planning. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and other technical staff.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with at least one year of engineering coursework completed.
  • Strong background using Microsoft Office products required
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read and follow cooperative maps, safety manuals, work orders, staking sheets and other technical documentation.
  • Demonstrates initiative, sound judgement, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience or exposure to the electric utility industry is preferred but not required.
  • experience working in databases, AutoCAD, and/or ArcGIS tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and data analysis.
  • Support compliance reviews and documentation.
  • Conduct system studies using computer modeling (voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, fault current, coordination).
  • Perform work order reviews.
  • Financial analysis with construction projects.
  • Prepare AutoCAD construction drawings.
  • Provide technical assistance in the review of the electric system models and facility design information.
  • Assist with database updates and automating processes used for electric system analysis.
  • Review technical documents, reports and drawings.
  • Document project progress and maintain organized records.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas.
