About The Position

The Engineering Intern will support engineering, manufacturing, and strategic business initiatives through technical documentation, CAD support, ERP data maintenance, capital equipment research, and supplier analysis. This role provides hands-on exposure to thermoforming manufacturing processes, product data management, and supply chain improvement efforts. Working closely with the engineering team and cross-functionally with commercial leadership, the intern will contribute to projects that drive operational efficiency, future equipment planning, and strategic sourcing.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of at least one year of coursework required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Statistics: Interpret and analyze numerical data using statistical methods.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD software.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and technical documentation practices.
  • Ability to conduct structured research, synthesize information, and present findings clearly.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail in data entry, validation, and reporting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload with general supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Sophomore standing or above.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Exposure to ERP systems (experience with any platform is a plus).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize and present data clearly.
  • Self-starter who can manage tasks with general direction in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Conversational in any other language is a plus.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills preferred.
  • Exposure to ERP systems or manufacturing data environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate inline and heavy gauge thermoforming machine manufacturers, including capabilities, specifications, differentiating features, and market positioning.
  • Organize findings into structured comparison tools, summaries, and decision-support materials to inform future capital equipment selection.
  • Assist with manufacturing drawing creation and revisions based on customer CAD models.
  • Utilize SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software) to support part modeling, drawing development, and documentation updates.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, drawing organization, and technical file management.
  • Assist with Bill of Materials (BOM) updates in the ERP system.
  • Support routing reviews and updates to improve manufacturing data accuracy.
  • Help validate product structures and data integrity within the ERP platform.
  • Research and identify alternative suppliers for single-sourced materials, components, or services.
  • Gather supplier capability information including lead times, risk factors, and commercial considerations.
  • Support strategic sourcing and supply continuity initiatives.
  • Assist with continuous improvement and special projects as assigned.
  • Organize technical and operational data to support analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial teams.
