The Engineering Intern supports process improvement, troubleshooting, and documentation for medical device manufacturing operations at Vantive's Mountain Home site. The facility includes injection molding (40+ presses) producing plastic components for the kidney dialysis market and cleanroom assembly lines producing Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) sets. The intern will work hands-on with engineers, technicians, and production teams to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Electrical, Controls, Automation Engineering (or closely related field)

Responsibilities

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with process monitoring, data collection, and analysis on injection molding and assembly operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/6σ) including cycle time reduction, yield improvement, scrap reduction, and ergonomics/safety improvements.
  • Participate troubleshooting on automated and semi-automated assembly equipment by helping document symptoms, collect evidence, and validate fixes.
  • Help create/update manufacturing documentation: work instructions, visual aids, standard work, process flow diagrams, and basic equipment checklists.
  • Assist with time studies and capacity assessments to support staffing and line balancing recommendations.
  • Support quality investigations (e.g., nonconformances, defect Pareto analysis) by compiling data, summarizing trends, and supporting corrective actions under engineer guidance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering to communicate findings and support implementation.
  • Apply good documentation practices in a regulated environment and follow cleanroom and safety requirements.
