We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Engineering Intern to join our Global Utility Division. In this role, you’ll be an active participant in supporting the goals of the Manufacturing Engineering team while learning best practices from some of the finest engineers in the world. You will gain hands-on project experience, exposure to cross-functional collaboration, and valuable insight into the engineering processes that bring innovative products to life. Valmont’s internship program is designed to equip emerging engineering professionals with real-world experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing, and interaction with senior leadership. You’ll work closely with engineers and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines while building the technical and professional skills needed for future success.

Requirements

  • Rising junior or senior pursuing a Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering degree at an accredited university, with graduation expected within 18 months.
  • Proficiency with CAD applications, including the ability to convert drawings into 3D models
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in improving design criteria, analysis methods, drafting procedures, and developing new engineering methods
  • Collaborate with team members from Manufacturing, Procurement, Service, Quality Assurance, and Engineering Services to gain a 360° perspective on the full product development cycle
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to help resolve product and machine issues
  • Assist in identifying capacity constraints, quality concerns, and opportunities for improved material handling and processes
  • Recommend, plan, and coordinate tests to validate theoretical designs when needed
  • Apply growing design knowledge to evaluate and improve the manufacturability of final designs
  • Engage in hands-on learning experiences through project work, leadership development, and job shadowing
  • Present your learnings and recommendations to business leaders through both individual and group presentations
