About The Position

INTERNSHIP POSITIONS ARE FILLED THROUGH OUR STAFFING PARTNER; INTERNS ARE NOT DIRECT EMPLOYEES OF SOUTHWEST GAS Intern Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., 40-hours per week during the summer break. Dates of Internship: May 26, 2026 – August 14, 2026 (with possible part-time extension into Fall 2026) The internship program is designed to provide a foundation of technical knowledge and professional experience while allowing students to learn about the natural gas industry and its distribution. To foster professional growth and development, interns are expected to work on individual and team projects that include some field visits and data collection. All interns in the internship program are expected to share their experience and lessons learned in a presentation for peers and Company management. What are the top things an intern can expect to do/learn from this internship? Company & Culture Basics Technical & Role-Specific Skills Tools and software used in the role How projects are planned, executed, and tracked Assisting with active projects Data entry, research, or analysis Preparing reports, summaries, or presentations Basic project management concepts End-of-internship evaluation or presentation Safety rules and hazard awareness PPE use and job safety expectations Emergency procedures What qualities/criteria is your department looking for in a successful/ideal intern candidate? Intern candidate must be an actively enrolled student at an accredited college and/or university. Candidates must have at least completed their freshman year and be majoring in engineering fields related to the company's work. Commitment to interning for a minimum of forty (40) hours per week for the summer and a minimum of ten (10) hours a week for the fall semester. Candidates must meet the following criteria: Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0, or Most recent semester/quarter GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 Unofficial transcript submittal is required Beyond the minimum internship qualifications posted on the intern portal, what additional qualifications must this candidate have? Currently enrolled in an engineering degree program Effective interpersonal skills Ability to learn technical knowledge quickly Self-motivated Effective written and verbal communication skills Effective time management Exhibits leadership qualities
