The Engineering Intern will support the Engineering and Manufacturing teams by assisting with process observation, time studies, and process documentation reviews within a manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on exposure to production processes, line balancing, and continuous improvement activities while developing foundational engineering skills. Training will be provided on all required tools, documentation, and methods.

Requirements

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; ability to work with time and rates).
  • Strong observation skills with attention to detail.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of common manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to follow procedures and accurately collect data.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to spend time on the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and observe production processes for extended periods.
  • Must follow all plant safety requirements and wear required PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing or shop-floor experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing team members to learn assigned production processes.
  • Observe manufacturing operations to understand workflow, equipment usage, and process interactions.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification to build process knowledge and technical understanding.
  • Conduct time studies on assigned key processes using established methods.
  • Develop and update line balance charts based on observed data.
  • Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or variation in cycle times.
  • Accurately record and organize data for engineering review.
  • Review process documentation (e.g., work instructions, process sheets, standard work) for observed part numbers.
  • Verify documentation accuracy against actual process execution.
  • Identify and clearly document any discrepancies between documented and observed processes.
  • Provide explanations or notes to support differences identified.
  • Communicate findings clearly with Engineering and Manufacturing team members.
  • Document observations, data, and conclusions in a clear and organized manner.
  • Participate in review discussions and improvement conversations as assigned.
