About The Position

The Hunterstown Generation Station is an advanced natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 810 MW. It employs three GE 7FB.04 combustion turbines, which effectively convert natural gas into mechanical energy, along with a GE D11 steam turbine that efficiently utilizes waste heat to enhance overall energy output. This state-of-the-art configuration ensures optimal efficiency and reliable electricity generation while minimizing environmental impact. Opportunity Summary The Engineering Intern assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by department managers. Here's a look at the projects planned during this internship period: Plant Documentation - Assist the Engineering and Administrative teams with documentation of ongoing activities including MOC / system changes, drawing revisions, and plant upgrades. Winterization Improvements – Partner with Operations and the Plant Engineer to develop and scope enhancements for seasonal readiness, minimizing risks associated with cold-weather operations. Preventative Maintenance Planning – Work closely with the Maintenance team to establish comprehensive preventative maintenance plans and schedules for critical equipment, improving reliability and asset longevity. Inspection & Testing Plans – Assist the Plant Engineer and Maintenance team with development and planning of new inspection and test plans, such as Cathodic protection, EMi, Infrared Thermography, HEP, and Nondestructive Testing. Control Valve Maintenance Schedule Update – Support the Plant Engineer in reviewing and refining the control valve maintenance schedule while establishing detailed preventative maintenance strategies for each valve. Procedure Optimization – Collaborate with the Operations Manager to review and enhance operational procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Reporting Support – Assist the Operations Manager in compiling and submitting monthly reports, ensuring accuracy and alignment with plant performance metrics.

Requirements

  • We are accepting applications from current students enrolled in an Engineering program or vocational colleges offering Power Technology programs.
  • Must possess a valid drivers' license
  • Demonstrated capability to analyze and correct problems that occur
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to third-year students in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • An educational focus on power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety, is highly desired.
  • Proficiency in PI Processbook a plus
  • Some experience in power plant operations and maintenance a plus

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Plant Engineer, Compliance Manager, Operations Manager, and Maintenance Manager to support and contribute to various plant projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, operational efficiency, and maintenance best practices.
  • Comply with all facility environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned within scope of abilities.
