About The Position

Internship is an opportunity for undergraduate engineers to learn firsthand from experienced professionals. Interns will rotate between site departments to gain an understanding of how each contributes to the success of the project and will complete a brief project, assigned by the engineering manager during the course of their internship. What You’ll Gain: First-hand exposure to shaft sinking operations and underground mine development. Understanding of specialized equipment such as sinking buckets, stage winches, and jumbo drills. Insight into the coordination between engineering, geology, and construction teams. Mentorship from industry professionals and potential career pathways in mining construction.

Requirements

Enrolled in a degree program in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management
None
Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD or mine planning software is a plus.
Must be able to demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment
Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
Knowledge and understanding of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
Strong interest in underground mining and vertical excavation techniques.
Ability to work in remote and physically demanding environments.
Basic understanding of mining terminology and shaft sinking safety standards.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

Assist with daily inspections and documentation of shaft sinking operations.
Support engineering and construction teams with progress tracking, reporting, and logistics coordination.
Observe and learn about key shaft sinking processes including drilling, mucking, lining, and ground support installation.
Participate in safety meetings and ensure adherence to shaft-specific safety procedures, including confined space and hoisting protocols.
Help maintain accurate records of shaft depth, advance rates, and material usage.
Shadow experienced professionals to understand the integration of geotechnical data, ventilation planning, and water management in shaft construction.
Contribute to quality control efforts by helping verify alignment, concrete placement, and equipment calibration.
Assist with administrative tasks such as updating drawings, filing permits, and preparing shift reports.
If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
