About The Position

Element has an opportunity for an Engineering Intern to join our team this summer. The primary function of the Engineering Intern is to support the laboratory’s Operations team with the assembly and installation of data acquisition systems (DAS). The secondary function of the Engineering Intern is to support the documentation of the DAS, associated bill of materials (BOM) and wiring diagrams.

Requirements

  • Possess the ability to work alone periodically throughout the work day with supervision
  • Understand what must be completed each work day and takes the initiative to complete those tasks properly and timely - does not need Senior/Principal Technician or management to explain what the task is.
  • Ability to read and understand customer specifications and perform the testing required
  • Able to develop a proven ability to set up and perform a variety of tests according to customer specifications under the supervision and technical input of Senior/Principal
  • Highschool diploma and undergraduate college experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret customer, industry and testing specifications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Self-disciplined and self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to the written and verbal instructions.
  • Independent thought and problem-solving abilities including mechanical creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Exhibit professional sense of organization, cleanliness, and presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and develops build schematics for DAS and associated wiring diagrams.
  • Builds DAS using a variety of hardware, wiring and electronics components.
  • Installs cabling, data-acquisition modules and computers into bespoke carts for high-channel systems.
  • Develops BOM and purchase lists and assists with standardization of associated items.
  • Integrated control systems and custom electronics projects into the laboratory’s control systems.
  • Provides input to the Engineering Manager and Test Technicians for the improvement of DAS.
  • Works under the supervision of a Project Engineer to support ongoing data-acquisition tasks as assigned.
  • Applies the principals of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the performance of daily work responsibilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Abides by and ensures that all duties are performed in accordance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE), Trade Compliance, and Quality practices, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
