About The Position

As an Engineering Intern at Associated Materials, you will gain hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, industrial or mechatronics while supporting ongoing engineering projects in a manufacturing environment. You will assist in organizing plant data, contributing to small capital projects, and updating technical drawings, enhancing the efficiency of operations. This internship will provide valuable exposure to real-world engineering challenges and the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals.

Requirements

  • Enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Mechatronics with an anticipated graduation date of 2027.
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the internship period.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive attitude and willingness to contribute to various projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software for updating and creating technical drawings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Must be in good academic standing, with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • A self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or related experience in mechanical, electrical, industrial or mechatronics engineering.
  • Some familiarity with industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Willingness to take initiative and contribute to team projects.
  • Interest in learning about plant operations and collaborating across functions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the specification and ordering of mechanical components, electrical controls, automation components, and instrumentation devices under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Assist with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, including calculations, documentation, and testing as needed.
  • Update and maintain technical drawings in AutoCAD, including machine information, power requirements, and dimensions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams to collect data and ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Contribute to the management of small capital projects, including project documentation and progress tracking.
  • Help organize weld fixture data, develop compatibility charts, and support the standardization of knowledge-sharing practices across the team.
  • Assist in creating a centralized system for accessing plant technical information to improve decision-making.
  • Participate in creating data flow diagrams and assist with mapping the plant's IT infrastructure.
