Join the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner team as an Engineering Intern and gain hands-on experience with water systems, sewer networks, and stormwater infrastructure projects happening across the county. This internship offers a unique opportunity to get out in the field, observe active construction, and learn how modern technologies are used to rehabilitate critical underground systems.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with status as a freshman or sophomore status (equates to steps 1 or 2 of salary range).
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with status as a junior/senior status (equates to steps 3 or 4 of salary range).
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a graduate degree program (equates to steps 5 or 6 of salary range).

Nice To Haves

  • Students pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field
  • Individuals interested in infrastructure, public works, or environmental systems

Responsibilities

  • Visit active water main, sanitary sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects across Oakland County
  • Observe engineers and contractors implementing modern rehabilitation techniques
  • Assist with site visits, inspections, and field data collection
  • Help document project conditions, progress, and field observations
  • Support engineering staff with reports, project records, and documentation
  • Utilize spreadsheets and databases to organize data and assist with basic calculations
  • Assist with updating drawings, maps, and project-related materials
