About The Position

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineering Intern - Energy Production located at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, Nebraska. This position will report to an Engineering Manager at Gerald Gentleman Station. Nebraska Public Power District is seeking an engineering student to work with and assist other experienced engineering staff in the Engineering Department at Gerald Gentleman Station. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, or other relevant engineering disciplines are acceptable. The duration of the internship will be May 2026 to August 2026, based on school calendar dates. Gerald Gentleman Station is located near the south shore of Sutherland Reservoir, just east of State Highway 25 in west-central Nebraska. GGS consists of two generating units with a nominal capacity of 1,340 megawatts and is the largest generating facility in the state.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university
  • Finishing their sophomore year of college

Responsibilities

  • Assist Plant Engineers with equipment troubleshooting
  • Obtain field data
  • Utilize drawings and prepare drawing revisions
  • Update plant records
  • Trend equipment performance data
  • Research equipment/component replacement and upgrade options
  • Assist Plant Engineers with project field implementation and contractor oversight
  • Accountable for other duties as assigned
