About The Position

The Bancorp Bank is seeking an Engineering Intern to join their Embedded Finance Technology team. This role offers hands-on experience building API-driven financial services that power banking and payments products for fintech partners. Interns will work on real-world systems in a regulated environment, contributing to backend services and API development. High-performing interns may be considered for future full-time opportunities. The Embedded Finance platform is central to The Bancorp’s strategy of enabling partners to deliver innovative financial products. This role directly supports the development of scalable, secure API infrastructure that underpins these offerings. By contributing to core engineering efforts, this intern helps ensure the reliability, performance, and compliance of systems that power real-world financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
  • Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, or Go).
  • Familiarity with Git and basic software development practices.
  • Experience with backend frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Express.js).
  • Familiar with Postman or Swagger.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong collaboration & documentation skills.
  • Eligible to work for any employer in the United States for the full duration of the internship.
  • Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate college degree program at the rising junior level, junior or senior level standing, enrolled in a master’s program or recently graduated within the past six months.
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree directly related to the department for which the internship program is listed.
  • Must be available for full-time internship.
  • May not be related to any employee of The Bancorp.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design development and testing of RESTful APIs for embedded banking and payments capabilities.
  • Contributes to API specifications using OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Writes clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Helps optimize APIs for scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Applies secure coding practices, including authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT).
  • Participates in code reviews and team discussions.
  • Documents technical designs and API workflows.
