About The Position
The Manufacturing Engineering Summer Intern/Co-op position at Smurfit-Westrock offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a global leader in sustainable paper and packaging. Interns will work in various environments, including manufacturing, research & development, or corporate settings, focusing on critical areas such as cost savings, environmental initiatives, and sustainability efforts. The program emphasizes safety, teamwork, and process improvement, ensuring that interns not only contribute to the company but also enhance their own educational and career trajectories. By the end of the internship, participants will have developed valuable skills and insights that will aid in their future careers. Interns will be involved in a range of activities designed to increase efficiency, reliability, and productivity within Smurfit-Westrock's operations. They will analyze data sets to identify key insights and propose value-based solutions, seek innovative approaches to operational challenges, and support maintenance activities with a focus on preventative measures. Additionally, interns will troubleshoot issues to identify root causes and report their findings to managers and senior leadership. This role also includes serving as a safety champion, ensuring adherence to safety policies and practices within the workplace. The internship is structured to provide exposure to various fields within the Pulp, Paper, and Packaging Manufacturing Industry, including Process Engineering, Supply Chain, Health and Safety, and Sustainability. Interns will manage day-to-day activities, complete project tasks, and implement new processes, all while working in a collaborative environment that fosters learning and professional growth.
