Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field from an accredited program
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Comfortable working independently and in collaborative teams

Responsibilities

  • Conduct low-speed crash testing (up to 15mph) and pedestrian impact testing (up to 30mph)
  • Perform materials testing (tensile, hardness, microhardness) for manufacturing and CAE modeling
  • Assist in fixture fabrication using welding, milling, turning, and laser cutting—no prior experience required
  • Learn LabView programming for data acquisition and instrumentation setup
  • Support static and fatigue testing on automotive and furniture components
  • Participate in benchmarking and full dimensional/material analysis of products like bumpers, door beams, and active grille shutters
  • Analyze and improve equipment design and processing windows
  • Document findings and create operator instructions
  • Get introduced to Six Sigma and the DMAIC problem-solving framework
  • Apply statistical analysis, including Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • Update electrical schematics and revise machine control systems
  • Design and implement PLC/operator interface programs using GE-Fanuc and Allen-Bradley platforms
  • Lead troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts on the shop floor
  • Create work instructions and integrate controls for process improvements
  • Design electrical schematics for high and low voltage systems using CAD
  • Design tools and fixtures using AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Support continuous improvement and production troubleshooting
  • Create and revise operator instructions
  • Assist with asset management, safety audits, and plant layout planning
  • Program and optimize Fanuc GMAW welding systems
  • Use Trumpf TruTops for offline programming and laser cutting operations
  • Improve dimensional capability and support capital/tooling procurement
  • Develop and document process parameters for welding operations
  • Gain exposure to Shape’s Product Development processes, including SPMP, enterProj, Plex, and Smartsheet systems
  • Learn the fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing development
  • Work with Teamcenter and VisMockUp to manage and visualize product data
  • Assist in the creation and review of key engineering documents such as DFMEA, DVP&R, and technical drawings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product design and process development initiatives
  • Apply engineering calculations to real-world problems
  • Manage cross-functional projects
  • Create technical documentation and present findings
  • Take on additional tasks as assigned by your supervisor
