About The Position

The Engineering Inspector is responsible for conducting inspections related to construction, land disturbance, erosion and sediment control, right-of-way improvements, and stormwater management systems. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and design standards, while also addressing citizen complaints and providing solutions to erosion issues.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in civil engineering and/or stormwater inspections.
  • Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level IB certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid State of Georgia Class C driver's license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Manual of Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Manual.
  • Understanding of construction, permitting, planning/zoning, and ADA regulations.
  • Ability to review and interpret construction documents for compliance.
  • General computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with various audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in civil engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, or construction management.
  • 7-10 years of related experience.
  • Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level II certification.
  • Detail-oriented and ethically above reproach.

Responsibilities

  • Complete inspection reports, permitting, and complaint tracking logs.
  • Conduct soil erosion and sediment control inspections for various permits.
  • Inspect right-of-way and utility construction/improvement projects.
  • Monitor stormwater retention/detention systems.
  • Inspect the City's right-of-way infrastructure, including stormwater infrastructure and sidewalks.
  • Document inspections through photographs, video, and written logs.
  • Investigate and follow up on citizen complaints regarding soil erosion problems.
  • Review construction drawings and erosion/sedimentation control plans for compliance.
  • Enforce codes and ordinances related to erosion control and stormwater management.
  • Issue Notices of Violations and Citations, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
  • Attend Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission regional meetings.
  • Review construction documents for right-of-way permits and bonds.
  • Follow safety rules and departmental policies with minimal supervision.
  • Provide timely feedback on work assignments to supervisors and coworkers.
  • Be available for emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays.
