The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and a desire to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions. BGC provides an opportunity for student interns to develop practical skillsets and gain experience within the field of geotechnical and geoscience consulting. Student interns at BGC can expect a mix of office and field-based project work that supports a wide variety of clients in the mining, pipeline, transportation, energy, and community sectors, completed under the guidance of technical experts.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical/Hydrotechnical/General) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics or a related field.
  • Excellent written, presentation and oral communications.
  • MS Office skills.
  • A second language is an asset.
  • Familiarity with topics such as Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Hydrogeology, Hydrology and Hydraulics, Geochemistry, Geomorphology, and Technical Writing is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site investigations including drilling, testing pitting, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment.
  • Monitor construction activities including dam, pond, and ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment and approval, and instrumentation installations and monitoring.
  • Report and interpret field data.
  • Support data management and data entry.
  • Interpret instrumentation data.
  • Contribute to designs.
