About The Position

The High Energy Laser Engineering Fellow at Raytheon is a senior technical role focused on leading innovative solutions and product development in high energy laser systems. The position requires extensive experience in engineering, mentoring, and collaboration across various teams to support the growth of new business opportunities and ensure successful product lifecycle management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 14 years of professional experience with a BS degree, 12 years with an MS degree, or 10 years with a PhD.
  • Expertise in high energy lasers, fiber laser systems, and/or laser system design.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan/schedule tasks, define optical/hardware components, interface with vendors, set up and align optical/laser hardware, document/report test results, and deliver laser systems.
  • Experience with laser characterization techniques for beam quality, wavefront-error, and laser noise measurements.
  • Broad understanding of optical and laser vendor capabilities.
  • Experience giving technical presentations to management and customers.
  • US Citizenship is required as this position will require a DoD Secret clearance within 1st year of employment.

  • Experience with producing patents and publications in the laser industry.
  • Experience leading engineering teams across the life cycle of the laser product including development, build, test, and integration into weapon systems.

  • Ability to write technical proposal volumes.
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace.
  • Proficiency in electronics, such as laser diode drivers, TEC, power supplies.
  • Proficiency with optical alignment techniques and alignment tooling.
  • Experience with optical component inspection, cleaning, and bonding.
  • Strong interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
  • Familiarity with processes and principles of systems engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide innovative solutions consistent with business development plans.
  • Partner with HEL leadership to grow new business.
  • Provide technical leadership to teams of engineers including leading design, build, integration, and testing.
  • Identify strategic HEL development opportunities.
  • Interface with program leadership and participate in customer and program technical reviews.
  • Be accountable to leadership for technical decisions.
  • Provide inputs and reviews of the engineering technical baseline as part of proposal efforts.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Program Management and Technical Leadership, Engineering Leadership, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Customer.
  • Establish mentoring relationships to develop expertise and enable a teaching culture at RIS.
