About The Position

The Engineering Equipment Operator position is primarily responsible for operating heavy equipment in various environmental management activities, including fuels management, erosion control, and vegetation management. The role requires a solid understanding of ecological practices and the ability to perform mechanical maintenance on equipment. The incumbent will work on a Forest Unit, contributing to the management of natural resources and ensuring compliance with wildlife habitat objectives and visual quality standards.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles safely and reliably.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to mobile equipment operation.
• Experience in performing duties without more than normal supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in vegetation management and erosion control.
• Knowledge of wildlife habitat and archaeological site management.
• Familiarity with silviculture practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment for fuels reduction activities.
• Implement complex silviculture prescriptions for thinning or site preparation activities.
• Complete erosion control, stream restoration, and meadow restoration activities.
• Push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, and earth using heavy equipment.
• Clear brush, tree stumps, and rocks while constructing lines for suppression and prescribed fire activities.
• Adjust equipment attachments for proper level, angle, or depth according to the work requirements.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Transport heavy equipment to job sites.
• Complete all agency-required administrative duties.
• Provide direction and instruction to personnel assigned to assist.
