About The Position

The Engineering Equipment Operator (Fire Dozer) position is part of the Department of Agriculture's Forest Service. This role involves operating engineering and construction equipment to support wildland firefighting efforts. The duties are performed at the full performance grade GS-XX level, and the position may require living and working in remote locations under volatile and unpredictable conditions. The operator will be responsible for maintaining ditches, road shoulders, road beds, and firelines, as well as clearing terrain of brush, tree stumps, and rocks.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management positions.
• Must be willing to live/work in remote locations.
• Must successfully complete a one-year probationary period.
• Must pass a background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Must be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
• Knowledge of work practices related to engineering equipment operation.
• Ability to work without more than normal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operate engineering and construction equipment such as graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and backhoes.
• Perform maintenance on ditches, road shoulders, road beds, and firelines.
• Clear terrain of brush, tree stumps, and rocks.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Interpret instructions and specifications related to mobile equipment operation.
• Drive motor vehicles safely while performing engineering/construction work.
