About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role is not eligible for relocation assistance Role Summary General Motors is seeking an Engineering Designer to join our Engine Team and support the development of next‑generation propulsion systems. In this role, you will create high‑quality NX math models, collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams, and help drive the design and integration of engine components and subsystems. This position is ideal for a detail‑oriented, self‑driven designer who is passionate about product excellence, virtual design, and supporting engineering teams within a world‑class organization.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in CAD/engineering design (automotive or mechanical systems preferred).
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX and parametric modeling.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturability, and subsystem integration.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree required for direct‑hire candidates.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Engine or propulsion component design experience.
  • Experience supporting CAE/analysis workflows.
  • Prior exposure to virtual integration or multi‑disciplinary design reviews.
  • Candidates from suppliers or OEMs with engine background are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support designers with design tasks, component requirements, and other virtual integration activities.
  • Develop, refine, and finalize Criteria and Sections for assigned components or systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Design Standards, Best Practices, and Global infoBOOK requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturability, Design for Assembly (DFA), and integration principles to part and subsystem designs.
  • Actively participate in—or lead—design and virtual reviews.
  • Document and maintain material specifications, mass data, and other attributes within the math file.
  • Perform NX analysis with support from the DLT or Senior Designer and apply results to subsystem designs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technical teams to meet product design requirements.
  • Integrate component and subsystem designs into the overall system architecture.
  • Stay informed on current product developments, technology trends, and best practices.
  • Share lessons learned with the broader design community and recommend updates to design standards.
  • Create math models or virtual layouts of complex components and subsystems.
  • Proactively communicate project status, timing, and technical issues to the Design Manager, DLT, and DRE.
  • Ensure high‑quality, on‑time math release of assigned components and subsystems.
  • Identify new learning areas and participate in ongoing training and skill‑development opportunities.
