About The Position

We are searching for an Engineering Designer Intern to join our Mechanical & Electrical Design & Drafting Department (MEDD) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. In this role, you will utilize skill sets consisting Drafting and 3-D Modeling, COTS creation, and Database Entry. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Create basic solid models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and other documentation using accepted methods and techniques Support basic research engineering programs utilizing computer aided design, documentation, databases, manufacturing, and/or inspection software tools Assist in the design and packaging of mechanical and electrical components, collaborating with R&D engineers, engineering aides, and senior personnel Utilize computer aided design software to create drawing formats, notes, and manufacturing information; ensure work complies with accepted standards Provide work status updates to senior personnel Perform basic department tasks related to classified and unclassified documentation control, copying, filing, and database entry Respond to requests for information from the manufacturing and assembly teams

Requirements

  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD software
  • Layout and design using CAD software for component creation
  • Ability to create 2D detail drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies
  • Ability to create 3D parametric solid models which are fully constrained

Nice To Haves

  • Siemens NX CAD experience
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM tool
  • Certification or familiarization with ASME Y14.5
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe products
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required.
  • Students pursuing a degree in an Engineering field are highly encouraged to apply.
