About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role is not eligible for relocation assistance Role Summary Do you have a passion for enabling world-class interiors using engineering principles and design innovation? The Interiors Engineering Designer is responsible for creating detailed interior components and system-level designs that combine functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal. Working closely with Architecture, Studio Design, Safety, and Manufacturing teams, this role ensures that innovative concepts are translated into robust, manufacturable solutions. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced NX CAD modeling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply engineering principles to meet occupant safety, ergonomic, and assembly requirements. Creativity, collaboration, and self-motivation are essential, as this position balances design intent, customer experience, and manufacturing feasibility throughout the architectural development process of interiors.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a related area
  • B.S. in Engineering or related field
  • Advanced NX CAD Modeling Skills
  • Advanced use of Teamcenter and TcVis
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive design
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing and design for assembly
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Utilization of benchmarking toolsets (A2Mac and Caresoft)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
  • Aptitude to integrate complex interior subsystems and a passion for innovation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Understanding of Engineering Specifications
  • Understanding of human to vehicle interface

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in Engineering or related field
  • Seat subsystem experience
  • Development of standard math models (SMM), user defined features, or templates
  • Knowledge and use of CAE tools including RAMSIS
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop highly integrated subsystems to resolve packaging and fitment challenges, ensuring design best practices and criteria are maintained.
  • Develop and integrate engineering criteria for interior components collaborating closely with Vehicle Architecture and Studio.
  • Apply DFSS and design-thinking methodologies to manage trade-offs and evaluate alternatives considering cost, mass, timing, dimensional variation, assembly, and other architectural imperatives.
  • Integrate global and regional safety requirements into interior architectures, developing solutions that exceed standards.
  • Actively communicate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical challenges within Expert Team meetings for your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that interior subsystems align with safety, occupant accommodations, storage, and accessibility.
  • Participate in CITs and SDIT Workgroups to balance innovation, design for assembly, manufacturability and interior best practices.
  • Benchmark competitive interiors to ensure packaging and component performance meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Create and maintain NX models for surface guidance and space claims, continuously developing your NX skills.
  • Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into interior packaging and design solutions to maximize space utilization and enhance customer experience.
  • Support Math Virtual Assessments and Synch Point reviews to validate design integrity and integration.
