This is a non-traditional internship focused around providing flexibility for students to maintain progress in their coursework while also gaining industry experience and assisting the company to improve safety, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement. Applicants can start their internship at any point during the year and typically choose to work around their class schedule, continuing through multiple semesters in most cases. This is a hands-on position that requires applicants to work directly with operations personnel and equipment. The Saint Francisville mill has a strong tradition of hiring interns from surrounding universities, particularly Louisiana State University. We currently have 9 LSU Chemical Engineering alumni working here, 6 of which were hired directly from their intern positions. Our mill’s location lends itself for students to be able to continue their coursework during their internship. Some of the examples of past projects completed by the Chemical Engineering interns include: Refiner plate design trials and optimization Development of ratio-based feedforward pH control strategy Capital project lock-out procedure devlopment Mill-wide process safety audit Development of maintenance and operating SOPs Chemical additive trials and optimization
