About The Position

This engineering co-op's main responsibility is design verification and validation testing. This individual may work within a project team - under the leadership of a more experienced individual (e.g. engineers, technicians, and/or project managers). This engineering co-op uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of engineering and any other expertise that might be held by this particular individual. This co-op is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals of the project, the department, and the company. This is a learning position.

Requirements

• High School diploma with 1 to 4 years college, working toward a B.S. or M.S. degree in Engineering.
• 0 years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Solidworks
• Experience with plastics design
• Experience with optics design
• Experience with sheet metal design
• Knowledge of heat transfer
• Familiarity with molding processes
• Understanding of materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.)
• Knowledge of pneumatics
• Experience with machining (especially CNC)
• Familiarity with CMM or OGP
• Understanding of GD&T

Responsibilities

• Uses experience and education to perform engineering activities within the realm of a mechanical engineering intern.
• Uses training, problem-solving skills, communication, and company and department SOPs/WIDs in a team environment to develop solutions for assigned projects.
• Works on well-defined problems of limited scope and complexity, generally in a team with other engineers or co-ops.
• Receives significant oversight and mentoring from Engineers of all levels, not acting as a Lead or Mentor for others.
• Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics Quality System.
• Makes decisions subject to review by engineers.
