About the position

STRATTEC Security Corporation is seeking engineering students for a co-operative educational program that provides hands-on experience in various engineering disciplines. This program is designed to expose students to real-world applications of their academic knowledge while working closely with experienced professionals. The program consists of four terms, each focusing on different aspects of engineering, including prototype lab work, process engineering, product design, and an optional final term in a chosen department. Students will engage in tasks that enhance their technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, ultimately preparing them for successful careers in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how parts are made at STRATTEC and become familiar with plant personnel and structure.
  • Work with customer and product specifications and perform validation testing of new product designs.
  • Assist in Statistical Process Studies (SPC) and become familiar with inspection and test equipment.
  • Participate as a cross-functional team member with quality, product design, manufacturing, and tool design.
  • Create, document, and implement work instructions for processes and equipment.
  • Work with vendors to develop prototypes and rapid tooling.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments, collect and summarize data, and recommend solutions.
  • Learn to create detail and assembly drawings of tools and fixtures using AutoCAD and manual methods.
  • Develop test plans to validate designs and perform tolerance stack-up analysis of components.
  • Investigate potential new materials for components and design improvements.

Requirements

  • Qualified, actively enrolled, and in good standing in an engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, or industrial) bachelor degree program.
  • Students must be enrolled in a credit course covering the co-op experience for the term(s) they work.
  • Commit to work no less than four terms, 40 hours per week, alternating with a semester of coursework.
