About The Position

SIGMADESIGN has collaborated with an electronic components manufacturer seeking an experienced Engineering Build Technician to join their facility in Wilsonville, OR. This company is a leading global manufacturer of interconnect solutions, specializing in high-speed board-to-board, cable, and terminal block products used across multiple industries like computing, telecommunications, medical, industrial and instrumentation. The Engineering Build Technician will be responsible for working with Operations and Engineering teams to support new and duplicate manufacturing equipment builds including assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and installation qualification. Responsibilities will also include service, repair, and maintenance of cable manufacturing equipment and tooling.

Requirements

  • 5+ Years of Experience in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Maintenance Technician role.
  • Excellent observational and problem solving skills. Able to recognize small discrepancies in the function of equipment. Able to use deductive reasoning to figure out the cause of a discrepancy.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organization and follow-up skills. Able to maintain accurate records for maintenance, electronic systems, and engineering documentation.
  • Use of various mechanics tools including power tools for drilling, tapping, grinding, cutting etc.
  • Use of basic electrical instruments including various meters and Oscilloscope.
  • Operational knowledge of control relays, pneumatic solenoids, PLC’s, servo motors, stepper motors, operator interfaces, etc.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office programs and able to learn internal electronic systems including maintenance tracking, inventory tracking, and production controls systems.
  • Ability to read “Basic” and IEC 61131-3 programming language.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills. Completes several concurrent tasks in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to read and write in English.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with limited supervision.
  • Possess leadership, interpersonal skills, and ability to be led in a manner that is consistent with a collaborative and highly productive, fast paced work environment.
  • Must rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals in a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to be part of team and communicate effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Must be capable of operating a forklift and scissor lift.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver a folding ladder. Must be able to climb (ascend/descend) and maintain balance while working on a folding ladder. Must be able to work overhead, including reaching above shoulder height for sustained periods.
  • Must be able to perform work at ground level and on low profile equipment including tasks that include kneeling, squatting, crouching, or sitting on the floor. Must be able to repeatedly transition between standing and floor work.
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly from floor to waist.
  • Hazards: Must be willing to work with and around chemicals, machines and high-temperature process tooling and equipment. Must also be willing to follow all safety regulations and wear required protective gear (PPE).
  • Pass a post-offer background verification and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Support in startup, debug, and qualification of mechanical and control systems on automated cable manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform assembly, wiring, and testing for installation of automated machine hardware.
  • Manage kitting process for new machine builds and maintain build area cleanliness and organization.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and control systems on existing automated equipment.
  • Manage basic machine upgrades including field wiring and mechanical sub-assembly.
  • Manage equipment build requests and work with management to prioritize work.
  • Perform repair and maintenance of manufacturing equipment to support cable production KPIs including equipment uptime, time to repair, and on time completion of PM tasks.
  • Manage multiple concurrent tasks and work independently.
  • Perform basic machining for part modification and fabrication.
  • Follow all site and local safety standards while performing work.
  • Able to travel to support cable equipment in other client locations
