About The Position
The Engineering Associate III position within the Development Review section of the Division of Traffic Management at the City of Columbus is a full-time role that involves a variety of advanced-level paraprofessional engineering tasks. The selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing preliminary and final site compliance plans submitted by developers looking to build new projects within the city. This role requires a high level of coordination with other city departments, divisions, and external stakeholders, including developers and their representatives. The candidate will also be tasked with collecting field data to assist in creating project scopes, ensuring that all developments comply with city regulations and standards. Under the general direction of a professional engineer or surveyor, the Engineering Associate III will serve as a subject matter specialist, performing duties that include planning, organizing, and coordinating engineering activities. This includes the preparation and review of plans, specifications, and drawings for various construction projects, such as utility, traffic, mechanical, or electrical works. The role also involves maintaining organized working files of all project-related documents, consulting with contractors and property owners, and reviewing calculations related to project costs. The position requires the candidate to evaluate the progress of ongoing projects in the field, ensuring compliance with established plans and regulations. The use of computer-aided drafting (CAD) and GIS mapping software is essential for this role, as is the ability to compile data and prepare comprehensive technical reports that may include budgetary and regulatory compliance information. The Engineering Associate III may also supervise employees assigned to specific projects or sections, further emphasizing the leadership aspect of this position.
