About The Position

LCRA is in search of a civil engineer at an intermediate level who is passionate about using engineering principles to develop substation sites to deliver electricity safely and efficiently across the State of Texas. As a part of the LCRA TSC Structural and Civil Engineering department, you will get an opportunity to work with a community of experts across various engineering backgrounds, all with the singular focus of enhancing the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy, and community service. Your civil design of substation sites with resilient flood mitigation drainage facilities will help to ensure Texas residents have reliable energy utility infrastructures for years to come. You will be trusted to: Under limited supervision of a licensed professional engineer, the candidate will be performing the following tasks: - Perform hydrological and hydraulic analysis for 138kV and 345kV substations civil designs. - Determine drainage facilities to convey or detain onsite runoffs under design storm events. - Support site development permitting process with local jurisdiction. - Perform project scoping engineering analysis and coordinate with interested parties to develop scope with estimates to be presented to senior management. - Plans and conducts engineering projects involving independent evaluation, selection, and relevant adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. - Schedules, and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. - Conducts moderately sophisticated engineering studies. Performs field analysis, performance tests, composes cost estimates, lays out drafting work, and the correlation and compilation of data. - Coordinate the work with engineers, technicians, craft workers or others. - Prepares and revises operating procedures and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Follows appropriate business procedures. Applies project management techniques. - Prepares technical specifications for project services, equipment, and materials for which there are few precedents. Completes related computations and drafts schematics and diagrams. - Coordinates project evaluations and practice timely communication to ensure timely deliverables. - Maintains knowledge of engineering principles. Keeps informed of technical developments, industry codes, and safety and/or regulatory requirements which have impact upon the respective engineering field. Fully develops knowledge of LCRA procedures, equipment, and systems. - Performs economic evaluations of programs and projects and renders judgment on the costs and benefits of the work from a company-wide perspective. - Reviews and evaluates bids and provide recommendations. - Gathers engineering information by traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as necessary.
