The Engineering Aide - Traffic position at Washington County involves providing skilled labor in collecting and analyzing traffic data, creating reports on traffic safety and operations, and assisting with the maintenance of traffic signs and signals. This role is essential for the Transportation Division and requires working under varying degrees of supervision.

  • Collects and documents traffic data using road counters, digital count boards, handheld radar units, and manual observations.
  • Prepares traffic safety and operations reports including sight distance observations, crash history diagrams, speed studies, signal operations studies, and traffic volume reports.
  • Assists other staff with inspection and documentation of temporary work zone traffic control.
  • Assists other staff with minor sign maintenance and inspection of roadway striping operations.
  • Assists Traffic Signal Technician on minor traffic signal maintenance operations.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Engineering college background or civil technology at a technical college is desirable.
  • Must have own means of transportation.
  • Individuals operating a motor vehicle for county business must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Successfully completed any college-level Traffic/Transportation Engineering courses.
  • Previous experience in Traffic Operations with Washington County or similar experience in another county.
  • Previous paid experience working near moving traffic and in field data collection.
