About the position

The position involves assisting the Technical Superintendent and Process Engineers in analyzing and troubleshooting process operations while collecting technical information. The role requires compliance with all company policies and procedures and full support of the company's goals for continuous improvement and operational excellence. This includes reviewing areas of responsibility for improvement opportunities, initiating projects, communicating ideas to management, and actively participating in project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot existing plant operations and implement new process improvement ideas to meet key plant goals and objectives for Personnel Health/Safety, Environmental Protection, Raw Material Usage, PVC Production, and Operating Costs.
  • Monitor plant conformance to safety and environmental regulations and perform process calculations to assist Safety and Environmental groups.
  • Recommend process improvements and initiate new projects to meet new Safety/Environmental regulations and improve compliance with existing regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze plant raw material and utility usages, recommending appropriate plant operating conditions and process controls to optimize efficiencies.
  • Summarize and report results of raw material and utility usages monthly.
  • Monitor daily plant operating conditions, maintain current plant operating logs and operator data sheets, and report key operating information to PVC production personnel.
  • Monitor equipment uptimes and maintenance requirements for key process equipment, conducting detailed inspections and recommending repairs.
  • Monitor daily plant lab test results, maintain lab sample schedules, and keep a laboratory database for critical sample results.
  • Use statistical process control methods to develop action limits for critical sample results and summarize and report results.
  • Coordinate plant process revisions, ensuring appropriate MOCs have been initiated, and assist with updating procedures and training.
  • Incorporate process revisions into existing plant PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Conduct detailed process material and energy balances on unit operations as required, collecting and evaluating process data for special studies and test projects.
  • Develop new plant project scopes, evaluate project justification, and perform project raw material and energy balance calculations.
  • Develop project PFDs, P&IDs, and process equipment specifications, and assist production with training and startup.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering processes, material, and energy balance.
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering unit operations and process control.
  • Proficiency in PCs and associated software programs and application skills.
  • Previous part-time work or co-op experience in a chemical plant preferred.
