About The Position

The Utilities Design Lead Engineer will oversee and lead utility design and relocation efforts across various projects nationwide. This role requires a deep understanding of utility design, coordination with third-party agencies, and managing in-house design teams. The Engineer will be responsible for developing this new service line within RailPros, preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E), and mentoring CAD professionals and utility designers. Additionally, they will manage utility relocations performed by third-party entities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Expertise in utility design and relocation processes with local and regional agencies.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills to develop a new service line.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for complex project challenges.
  • Experience with CAD and design software including Bently MicroStation and AutoCAD products
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • 8+ years of experience in utility design and relocation projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in home state

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team for utility design and coordination while managing background documentation.
  • Prepare Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for in-house utility design.
  • Manage subconsultants involved in utilities-related scope.
  • Coordinate stakeholder utility engagements with third-party utility agencies.
  • Develop and manage utility design efforts for engineering projects.
  • Oversee field potholing operations to guide data collection and alternative solutions.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes affecting utility design and recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Build and expand RailPros' utility design service line for future projects.
  • Coordinate across departments to ensure utility design integration within larger projects.
  • Develop in-house training presentations to educate teams on utility design capabilities.
  • Represent RailPros at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
