Requirements

  • Engineering Test Operations 1 - Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 0 years of relevant professional/exempt experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Engineering Test Operations 2 - Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant professional/exempt experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Candidate must have experience in reading and interpreting Engineering Drawings and Schematics
  • Candidate must have the ability to work in a team environment planning and coordinating with other functional departments across a wide range of disciplines.
  • Candidate must have great communication, organizational and computer skills.
  • Candidate must be a US citizen.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipyard or US Navy A4W propulsion and/or reactor plant construction, operation, and/or maintenance experience.
  • Working knowledge of shipyard work controls processes to include proficiency with Electronic Shift Operating Management System (eSOMS).
  • Active Confidential DOD Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
  • Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
  • Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
  • May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
