About The Position

The SSN(X) Platform Mechanical team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced system engineer to join our diverse, dynamic and dedicated team of engineers. As a member of our team you'll have the once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape critical functions and novel capabilities for the Navy's next generation fast attack submarine. The mechanical team is responsible for the concept design, development, and execution of complex mechanical systems across the non-propulsion areas of the submarine, including payload launch and recovery, control surfaces, HVAC, chill water, masts, and many others. You will team with the Navy and industry to develop these systems, molding what will become the world's most advanced and capable submarine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience
  • Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Nice To Haves

  • Strong technical background with a comprehensive knowledge of ship systems and components across the platform
  • Strong team collaborator and coordinator, helping to integrate multiple teams with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NNS leadership or the Navy, and coordinating with vendors and industry partners

Responsibilities

  • Support system integration across multiple systems and disciplines
  • Coordinate with the digital engineering team in the execution of model based engineering for mechanical systems
  • Support the development of processes, tools, and other products necessary for program execution
  • Support the development and re-envisioning of ship specifications
  • Coordinate with Navy counterparts and conduct periodic briefs to the Navy and working groups
  • Oversee the work of supporting team members and review technical products
  • Travel periodically to naval bases/facilities, vendors, conferences, or other NNS facilities
