About The Position

The Engineer Supervisor is responsible for planning, managing, coordinating, and delivering engineering support services to the Water Resources Division (WRD) Bureaus and Regional Offices. This role involves leading the development and implementation of annual work plans, performing engineering duties related to dam safety regulation, floodplain technical assistance, and state water project management, while supervising a team of engineering specialists.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Four years of supervisory, management, and leadership experience in an engineering regulatory program.
• Professional Engineer's license is required.
• Strong leadership, personnel management, and program management skills.
• Thorough knowledge of natural resources laws, regulations, and issues impacting Montana.
• Knowledge of civil engineering fields, particularly geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and dam design.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage, direct, and coordinate engineering services and activities delivered by the Regional Office Engineering Services Section (RESS).
• Supervise, recruit, mentor, and train employees within the RESS.
• Plan, assign, and direct work for the engineering staff, appraising performance and addressing complaints.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record for WRD work and review the work of licensed engineers and engineer interns.
• Evaluate compliance with laws and rules related to WRD Dam Safety and Floodplain programs.
• Perform engineering evaluations and analyses for the State Water Projects Bureau.
• Plan and conduct engineering, hydrological, and hydraulic research and analyses in support of WRD.
