About The Position

The Strategic Electrical (System) Engineer provides expert-level technical support for the operation, maintenance, testing, and modification of assigned systems and programs. Reviews performance of assigned systems, components, and programs and recommends changes regarding operation, maintenance, or testing. Monitors and audits overall compliance programs, performs system and component trending, performs system walk-downs, performs corrective action management, monitors and maintains the preventive maintenance program for assigned systems or programs, and makes recommendations and implements changes as needed to the items described above. The System Engineer provides support as the technical conscience and reliability 'Champion' for the station on their assigned system or program to ensure that equipment remains reliable and always ready to support nuclear safety and plant generation. The System Engineer position resides within the Strategic Engineering Department and interacts extensively with the other Engineering Departments, Operations, Maintenance, Work Control, and Chemistry.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) documents to implement required programs.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting, consulting, or managing generators or electrical distribution equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Technical support for the operation, maintenance, testing, and modification of assigned systems or programs.
  • Reviews performance of assigned systems and components and recommends changes regarding operation, maintenance, or testing.
  • Performs equipment cause evaluations of plant failures and identifies corrective actions as necessary to ensure strong equipment reliability.
  • Provides input to the at-power and outage schedules, including prioritization, logic work grouping, etc. for work being scheduled.
  • Systematically adjust preventive and predictive maintenance activities based on feedback from a variety of sources.
  • Champion major maintenance and modifications that impact Plant Reliability or Generation and ensure these items are taken through the funding process.
  • Ensures Schedule development and implementation maintains switchyard power to required equipment to minimize shutdown risk during refueling outages.
  • Coordinates and safely implements Emergent switchyard activities. Evaluates activities for Work Risk & Operational impact.
  • Monitors and recommends switchyard scope changes and manages their impacts to the online and outage schedule to minimize risk/cost to the station.
  • Performs impact reviews of switchyard work activities to include an aggregate review of known deficiencies that could impact reliability of the switchyard.
  • Participates in the preparation/execution of 138-line outage work.
  • Leads/attends meetings to support switchyard reviews and critiques. Interfaces with the schedulers to ensure schedule is accurate, timely, complete and properly maintained.
  • Acts as 'CHAMPION' for plant systems. Advocates system or program health with an emphasis on improving overall plant performance and reliability.
  • Performs switchyard coordinator duties as assigned in station procedures and policies.
