About Department 471 - Commissioned Ships Propulsion Plant Mechanical Engineering D471 supports commissioned submarines and training units in the Navy. We provide technical support to LOS ANGELES, SEAWOLF, OHIO, VIRGINIA Class submarines, Moored Training Ships, and the S8G Prototype. D471 is a part of the following programs within the Life Cycle Support (LCS) Directorate: Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY), Moored Training Ship Support Yard (MTSSY), and S8G Prototype Design Agent (S8G PDA). D471 Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) Structural Engineering supports mission readiness of LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class commissioned submarines by providing engineering technical support for modernization and maintenance of the reactor plant. Role Overview As an RPPY Structural Engineer, you will provide engineering support for Naval Nuclear Power Training Units, which include the Moored Training Ships and the S8G Prototype. This position requires the ability to resolve of a wide variety of technical challenges, directly supporting the commissioned fleet. Technical expertise and knowledge of structural engineering, submarine arrangements, military and federal specifications, welding, fasteners, material properties, and project management are all beneficial to the position.
