Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Proficient using CAD software for modeling/drafting (SolidWorks preferred) and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Demonstrated design analysis capability.
  • Prior participation in written and/or oral proposal/design review activities for external Customers.
  • A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the mechanical design effort for new spacecraft structures from proposal phase through award, detailed design, fabrication, assembly, test, and requirements verification.
  • Performing CAD modeling, design and analysis to meet Technical Requirements.
  • Support Requirements Development, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Test, and Requirements Verification.
  • Proactively identifying, communicating, and managing risks and opportunities.
  • Providing technical oversight of Spacecraft design related subcontracts.
  • Define, maintain, iterate, and verify the structural requirements that are needed to meet the system and other subsystem requirements and interfaces.
  • Generate, iterate, maintain, and release the primary/secondary structure design that meets system and subsystem requirements.
  • Working on CAD and doing simple hand structural analysis calculations during proposal and program initial startup.
  • Transition to leading teams of 5-10 design and analysis engineers with majority of time spent leading the team and communicating with the internal and external customers.
  • Coordination required with personnel from all other spacecraft sub-systems including external interfaces such as customers, customer consultants, payload providers and launch vehicle providers.
  • Contribute to continuous evolution of Spacecraft related processes and tools to improve execution.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
