About The Position

Dominion Energy Power Generation Engineering seeks an Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer with a controls and instrumentation background to support the Power Generation fleet (non-nuclear) with technical leadership and hands on SCADA and PLC expertise. This stimulating position would be responsible for assisting with designing, implementing, and maintaining industrial control systems primarily at Dominion Energy Solar and Battery Storage facilities while occasionally supporting traditional power generation stations. The successful candidate will be able to provide the support noted below in accordance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements for the Power Generation fleet: Provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, design, implementation, programming, configuration, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting in support of utility scale power generation SCADA, PLC, and ICS systems. Provide hands on experience with all associated control system devices, controllers, computers and account management, communications, control logic interfaces for inverter operation and solar tracking systems, protection relay and electrical control interfaces, network connections, protocol converters, and endpoint devices. Provide expertise in engineering consultation and recommendation for solution to include development of engineering specifications and documentation, work scopes, bid proposals, test procedures, alarm response procedures, commissioning plans, and reports. Lead projects and perform responsibilities of controls engineering support and oversee vendor/contractor support when needed. Provide support and leadership to meet compliance requirements, code requirements, NERC regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity requirements. Investigate and implement technologies that will improve plant operation and performance (e.g., reliability, efficiency, environmental) and technologies that will assist with control system maintenance and analysis. Evaluate controls specifications for existing site retrofits, new site construction, and site acquisitions.

Requirements

  • Engineer: 2+ years of relevant professional engineering experience (post-school).
  • Senior Engineer: 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience (post-school).
  • Staff Engineer: 8+ years of relevant professional engineering experience (post-school).
  • Strong experience with industrial control systems used in the power generation industry or related heavy industrial sector.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with power plant controls including solar power generation and battery storage.
  • Strong computer skills as they relate to operating systems, controls system software, account management, and communications software.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing and analysis of control systems equipment.
  • Experience with Ethernet network switches and with serial digital communications, including third party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge and experience of electrical, electronics, and controls theories.
  • Strong technical leadership skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to support the technical aspects of multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully work both independently and in team environments to identify issues, pinpoint root causes, and devise solutions.
  • Education Level: Bachelor of Engineering (see criteria below)
  • Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred (other Bachelor of Engineering disciplines may be substituted for the approved disciplines stated above at discretion of the hiring leader).
  • For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
