About The Position

Flowserve is looking for an experienced, skilled mechanical engineer who enjoys the challenge of reverse-engineering physical parts and assemblies, and drawings, to create accurate 3D models for centrifugal pumps. In the shop and at our customer's industrial sites, the engineer will operate portable coordinate measuring machines (CMM), including touch and laser probes, and other precision measuring tools for engineering of casting components. The data will be used for 3D CAD solid models or detailed production drawings. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative style to work effectively with our customers, and with Flowserve manufacturing, sales engineers, and customer service.

Requirements

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical degree required
  • 5+ years of relevant, applicable experience, preferable in the gas/oil, chemical, or power industries
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%
  • Highly skilled in SolidWorks, Laser scanning software, and data processing software including scan to CAD model conversion and scan to CAD inspection reporting
  • Ability to accurately use precision measuring tools and equipment
  • Experience with Faro Arm, Faro Laser Tracker and Geomagic valued
  • Detail oriented with a focus on first-time quality, able to work independently and self-check for quality
  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with all levels of employees, managers, and customers
  • Able to collaborate and problem-solve with others in a team setting
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office suite software
  • Must have full range of movement to reach, work with hands and arms in various positions, stoop, and move under and around equipment in the field
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in production environment including familiarity with drawing interpretation, GD&T, and component inspection processes
  • Must show a customer-service, results-oriented mindset at all times

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of scanning lab
  • Maintain software for laser scanning systems
  • Maintain hardware certifications for laser scanning systems
  • Support developments in scanning methods and procedures
  • Collaborate with other scanning personnel to manage capacity and priorities
  • Create 3D models from Flowserve drawings and scanned data collection
  • Scan to CAD model conversion and scan to CAD inspection reporting
  • Process 3D point cloud data for re-engineering and inspection
  • Organize and update electronic document management system
  • Collect data at both customer and Flowserve sites
  • Record measurements using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, thread gages, etc.
  • Read and interpret machine drawings and Bill of Materials
  • Operate hand-held material analyzer
  • Operate ultrasound thickness gage
  • Assist Field Services with Laser Tracker scanning projects as needed
  • Design engineering as needed
