About The Position

Transmission Interconnections Planning helps Georgia Power’s strategy to meet the energy needs of customers and support the state’s expected continued extraordinary growth by serving on the team that studies generator interconnection requests. A key component of the strategy is to procure up to 4,000 MW of renewable resources by 2035. The Engineer/Project Manager coordinates with Georgia Power, Southern Company Services, and ITS Participants to address Transmission Service and Generation Interconnection requests in line with FERC, state, and reliability standards. This role manages communications with all parties and ensures timely, accurate responses to each request. Candidates who do not currently live in the metro Atlanta area may be eligible for relocation assistance, which will be evaluated individually as necessary.

Requirements

  • Four (4) year B.S. Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree preferred - Electrical desired.
  • Experience and understanding related to planning, design, operation, and maintenance processes for substations and transmission lines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the transmission system, engineering principles, electric operating practices, construction practices, land requirements and regulations, budgeting, scheduling, and general business practices.
  • Analytical skills required to assess progress, identify issues, evaluate alternatives and financial impacts, and determine solutions that address both customer and company needs.
  • Experience with the generator interconnection process and its implementation is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with accounting procedures relevant to expenditures, project billing, and capital budgeting processes.
  • Experience with TEAMS, Budget Change Authorization (BCA) process, STOMP, and Oracle.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power Automate and Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Transmission Interconnections Planning (IP-T) Principal Engineer and Transmission Project Management Organization (PMO) to define project scopes, timelines, and cost estimates for Transmission Planning related to Transmission Service and Generator Interconnection requests.
  • Prepare BCAs for necessary facility upgrades, with input from various work groups including Transmission Design, System Operations, Resource Planning, and Renewable Resources.
  • Coordinate closely with Accounting to ensure accurate budgeting of generator interconnection upgrade costs.
  • Develop Interconnection Agreements and related contracts per FERC guidelines, ensuring compliance with Georgia Power and Southern Company standards.
  • Administer GPC Interconnection programs, including Qualified Facilities and Affected Systems, by processing contract agreements as required.
  • Participate in activities per ITS Planning Procedure 13 and review TSRs and interconnection requests from ITS Participants.
  • Maintain documentation to track request dispositions and progress on budgeted projects, ensuring service commitments are met.
  • Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and project teams.
  • Respond to storms both within and outside the system as needed.
  • Hold a valid Georgia Driver’s License and drive company or rental vehicles for field visits.
