Researches, develops, designs, and/or tests components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. May design equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Applies engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. The individual should be experienced in the design and/or testing of Naval nuclear propulsion plant systems and components, and must be able to apply engineering principles, theory, technology, and tools to analyze and resolve complex engineering problems in new and existing electrical component designs. Familiarity with manufacturing processes as well as military and/or commercial specifications and requirements are required. The candidate will support the Manager 3 and Manager 2's as well as collaborate with other Engineer 5's in the department and company. The candidate will be involved in management of long-term projects including failure analysis and design improvement proposals. The individual will provide technical leadership and direction for specific engineering projects, including reviewing and assisting in timely execution of the work of less-senior engineers. The candidate must have excellent verbal and technical writing skills to provide reports and presentations detailing the results of analyses and/or studies performed. The candidate must be experienced in project management to manage multiple projects simultaneously, help develop these skills in team members, and prioritize work to meet schedule, cost, and quality objectives. The individual will also maintain an awareness of the latest developments in the field and expand their capabilities as necessary. External contacts will include NAVSEA, NNL, BPMI, SUPSHIP, TYCOM, Ship's Force, Naval shipyard personnel, manufacturers, and other industry technical specialists. CVN Planning Yard experience preferred.
